WEBINAR - SEQ Groundwater Quality and Update on National Water Quality Guidelines (ANZG)

The presentation will be in two parts. The first part will provide an outline of current work to identify water quality characteristics of groundwaters throughout South East Queensland, and how this links to national water quality policy and the Queensland Environmental Protection (Water and Wetland Biodiversity) Policy 2019.

The second part will provide information on the Australian and New Zealand Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality (ANZG), being coordinated by the Australian Government with jurisdictional inputs.  This includes links to a selection of web pages and latest information on status of guideline products (including toxicants).

The presentation provides:

1. an example of how national policy guidance being interpreted in the development of regional groundwater quality information (for South East Queensland), and
2. improved understanding of the status of guidelines under the Australian and New Zealand water quality guidelines (ANZG), and a selection of links to find information on the ANZG website.

The presentation may be of interest to those in regional level water quality planning (groundwater example - South East Queensland) and those interested in receiving an update on the status of selected ANZG water quality guideline

Dane Moulton is a senior policy officer in the Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES). He has been involved in water quality projects under the Environmental Protection (Water and Wetland Biodiversity) Policy 2019, and, in recent years, with other jurisdictional representatives contributing to the updated Australian and New Zealand water quality guidelines (ANZG, previously known as the ANZECC guidelines)
