ON DEMAND - Combining In Situ Chemical Oxidation with In Situ Soil Solidification for Organics – Conflicts and Resolutions

Situ Solidification (ISS) has become increasingly accepted for organic contaminants over the past 20 years, including LNAPL and DNAPL. However, practitioners still experience resistance to ISS as a remedial approach, in part due to perception that contaminant mass remains in place. This presentation discusses the role of in situ chemical oxidation in an ISS approach to increase acceptance while improving performance. The basic theory behind these technologies is explained, considering the conflicting reactions associated with the use of binding agents and sodium persulfate in a single mix application and how to maximize the associated benefits.
