Advancing Site Characterisation by Assembling Multiple Contemporary and Historical Data Sources

Advancing Site Characterisation by Assembling Multiple Contemporary and Historical Data Sources

“Poorly planned and executed site characterisation is likely to result in additional expense, both during the investigation and subsequent remediation, and inadequate or misleading data may also result in an increased risk to human health and the environment.” (CRC CARE Technical Report 11).

In this session, we will describe how we have built Australia's largest Historical Land Use Database (HLUD), some of the challenges we face in sourcing and mapping historical information and look at some recent case studies to show how understanding the site history can help you identify risk earlier on in a site assessment.

We will conclude the session with audience driven questions and answers. Please email me at elearning@landandgroundwater.com with any detailed aspects of the subject you would like to see addressed.

Dr John Lee has an extensive academic background having studied contamination in Sydney Harbour for his PhD. John is the leader of the data and reporting team at Lotsearch.
