Join us for an engaging evening hearing from a number of Emerging Professional speakers representing various areas of the industry. They will share their journey into the contaminated land industry followed by short technical presentations on their areas of interest.
This evening is an opportunity for cross-experience level engagement.

Our Speakers
Rebecca Bruce
Ministry for the Environment
Rebecca recently joined the Ministry for the Environment as an analyst working on the Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund (CSRF), having previously worked as an Environmental Geologist at Pattle Delamore Partners (PDP) for 2 years. In her current role, she supports the administration and management of the CSRF, working with regional councils and landowners to investigate and remediation contaminated sites across Aotearoa.
She was the co-chair of the PDP Emerging Professionals committee and has a drive to see the development and growth of those new to the contaminated land industry.
Rebecca studied Geology and Physical Geography from the University of Edinburgh (BsC hons 1st class), with a dissertation in glacial geomorphology.
Robyn Edwards, Environmental Scientist
Tonkin & Taylor
Robyn, who has an MSc in Volcanology from the University of Bristol (UK), as well as a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Cardiff University (UK) has been working at Tonkin & Taylor Ltd as an Environmental Scientist for 2.5 years and has been in the industry for almost 6 years, working in Contaminated Land. Robyn’s most recent work in New Zealand has focused on emerging contaminants and their fate in soil and groundwater, as well as leading a multi-year onsite investigation into legacy contamination at a former agrichemical manufacturer site.
Dr Genevieve Smith, Environmental Scientist
Beca
Genevieve started out in the primary sector, focusing on the effects of farming on soil and water quality. She has a PhD (Environmental Science) from Lincoln University, where she published articles on the effects of redox chemistry on soil nutrients in New Zealand and Ireland.
Genevieve has been working in the Environments team at Beca for almost 3 years, working in water quality and contaminated land. Some of her recent work includes an investigation supported by the Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund, and developing / brokering a ministry-funded freshwater service.
