Dr Sarah Richards Award

The Dr Sarah Richards Award has been established by ALGA to honour Dr Sarah Richards, a geoenvironmental engineer, contaminated land and groundwater practitioner and ALGA President, who passed away on 24 May 2023. Sarah’s career expanded 28 years, which included returning to higher education to complete her PhD. Sarah was a strong advocate for continued research in the contaminated land and groundwater field. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they will utilise the funds to either continue or commence research in the field, and personally reflect many of the attributes displayed by Sarah as a highly respected practitioner.

The Award is to be issued annually.

The nominations are now closed. The winner will be announced at the Conference Dinner at ecoforum/SustRem 2023 on Thursday 12th 2023.

ELIGIBILITY

An individual who is either currently undertaking research or planning to undertake research in the field of contaminated land and groundwater or in an area that would support the contaminated land and groundwater industry.

The applicant does not need to be an ALGA member. However, membership of other relevant professional organization relevant to the applicant’s field of expertise would be preferrable (e.g. Engineers Australia, IAH, CEnvP, etc.)

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

• Research Criteria:
  • Demonstrate that the research will have a positive impact on the industry as a whole
  • Demonstrate that the research findings can be practically implemented
• Personnel Criteria:
  • Analytical thinker
  • Operate at high professional standard
  • Persistent and able to navigate challenges
  • Willing to challenge traditional approaches

Respond to the above Criteria.
Attach a minimum of two referral letters.

• $5,000 scholarship
• 12-month ALGA Membership
• Opportunity to present your research findings at either ecoforum or the New Zealand Land and Groundwater Conference depending on your country of residence.
