Webinar – Not Every Career is a Straight Line!

An ALGA Women in the Contaminated Land and Groundwater Industry Specialist Interest Group Initiative

Career pathways within the contaminated land and environmental sector are often portrayed as structured and predictable. In reality, many professionals follow non-linear journeys shaped by unexpected opportunities, career changes, personal circumstances, and evolving interests. These experiences can provide valuable lessons in resilience, adaptability, and professional growth.

This webinar will bring together industry professionals to share their experiences navigating unconventional career pathways across the contaminated land and environmental sector. Through personal reflections and practical insights, the discussion will explore the challenges, opportunities and unexpected turning points that have shaped their careers, and how these experiences contributed to professional success and fulfilment.

In this webinar, our panellists will discuss:

  • Career pathways that did not follow the original plan.
  • Navigating career changes, setbacks and unexpected opportunities.
  • Turning challenges into opportunities for growth and development.
  • Lessons learned and reflections from diverse career experiences.
  • Building resilience and adaptability in a changing profession.
  • Advice for professionals considering a career change or seeking a new direction.

The discussion will examine how embracing uncertainty, remaining open to new opportunities, and developing transferable skills can support long-term career success. Practical examples and personal stories will highlight the many pathways available within the contaminated land and environmental sector and demonstrate that rewarding careers are often built through unexpected experiences rather than carefully planned trajectories.

This webinar will be particularly valuable for early-career professionals, individuals returning to the workforce, those considering a career change, and anyone seeking inspiration or guidance for their own professional journey. A live Q&A will follow, and the session will be recorded.
