Webinar – National Harmonised Auditor Accreditation Process for the Initial Accreditation of Site Contamination Auditors

The National Harmonised Auditor Accreditation Process (NHAAP) has been developed to provide a nationally consistent approach to the application and assessment process for the initial accreditation of site contamination auditors, while maintaining the jurisdictions as accreditation authorities.

This webinar will provide an overview of the inaugural National Harmonised Auditor Accreditation Process, which will commence in September 2026. The session will explain the objectives of moving to a nationally coordinated accreditation process and outline the new application and assessment framework for environmental practitioners seeking accreditation as site contamination auditors in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, or Western Australia.

In this webinar, Madeleine Thomas from SA EPA will explore:

  • The purpose and objectives of the National Harmonised Auditor Accreditation Process (NHAAP).
  • Why jurisdictions have moved to a nationally coordinated application and assessment process
  • How the harmonised process supports consistency and transparency in auditor accreditation.
  • Eligibility requirements for prospective site contamination auditors.
  • The structure of the new application and assessment process.
  • Key stages, timelines, and expectations for applicants.
  • The roles of participating jurisdictions in delivering the 2026 NHAAP.
  • What the inaugural accreditation round means for experienced contaminated land practitioners.

The presentation will also examine the collaborative approach adopted by participating jurisdictions, including South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia, and how the new framework has been designed to support the future accreditation of site contamination auditors across Australia. Victoria is not actively participating in the 2026 NHAAP, due to the recent accreditation round undertaken in Victoria in 2024/2025.

This webinar will be particularly valuable for experienced contaminated land practitioners considering auditor accreditation, environmental consultants, regulators, contaminated land managers, and others interested in the future of site contamination auditor accreditation in Australia. A live Q&A will follow the presentation with participating jurisdictions, including South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, and Victoria, and the session will be recorded.
