Air monitoring sits at the core of asbestos risk management. However, a critical gap exists within current WHS legislation: while air monitoring is mandated, there is no requirement for metrological traceability of airflow volume or associated analysis used to calculate airborne fibre concentrations. This creates a regulatory blind spot where clearance decisions may be based on results that appear compliant but lack scientific defensibility.
Without legislated requirements for traceable volume measurement and Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis, reported concentrations (f/mL) may satisfy documentation requirements while failing to meet fundamental standards of analytical reliability. This disconnect creates a paradox: assurance is required, but the conditions needed to achieve it are not enforced, allowing systemic error and misplaced confidence in site safety.
In this webinar, our speaker will explore:
Practical examples will illustrate how gaps in measurement and analysis affect outcomes, and what this means for defensible risk management across environmental and occupational health contexts.
This webinar will be particularly valuable for occupational hygienists, contaminated land practitioners, consultants, and regulators. A live Q&A will follow, and the session will be recorded.
