Dr Shima Ziajahromi

Lecturer
Griffith University

Dr Shima Ziajahromi is a Lecturer at School of Environment and Science, Australian Rivers Institute (ARI), Griffith University where she completed her PhD on microplastics in wastewater treatment plants.

Her research focuses on the occurrence, fate, and toxic impacts of microplastics in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, with an emphasis on developing innovative methods for the identification and quantification of microplastics and nanoplastics.  In 2019, She was awarded an Advance Queensland Industry Fellowship to research the "Risks of microplastics in biosolids to soils and agro-ecosystems." Dr Ziajahromi currently serves as Australia’s representative on the OECD Steering Committee for developing guidelines on the “Safety Testing of Nanoplastics”. Her research advances scientific understanding and informs public policy and regulations to minimise microplastic pollution in Australia.
