The ANZG Guidelines – Best Practice Approach to Assessing, Monitoring and Managing Water and Sediment Quality – Event has passed, recording now available

This event is now passed and available on-demand. Please register and you will receive a dedicated link to watch the webinar

The comprehensive ANZECC/ARMCANZ (2000) Australian and New Zealand Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality were updated and converted to a web platform in 2018. But, how familiar are you with the 2018 Guidelines? Do you know what they include, where to find them and how to use them? This webinar will introduce the key components of the Guidelines and detail how they are intended to be used. Key aspects that will be considered include:

  • The national water quality management framework (WQMF) – an adaptive management framework that can be used to assess/monitor/manage water or sediment quality for multiple types of issues;
  • The weight of evidence process for assessing water/sediment quality – based on the premise that the most defensible assessments of water/sediment quality rely on multiple lines of evidence based on a suite of pressure, stressor and ecosystem receptor indicators;
  • How to derive guideline values for water/sediment quality – noting that local guideline values are preferred over generic default guideline values, and that there are multiple ways to derive local values; and

Future priority areas – summarising key outcomes of the 2023-24 review of the Guidelines and development of a 5-year strategic plan.
