Solving issues through detailed chemical analysis. What is currently possible?

In this webinar, John will cover a range of analytical techniques and environmental forensics procedures, demonstrating how these can assist participants in understanding and potentially resolving complex environmental questions and concerns.

Analytical chemistry and environmental forensics have progressed in leaps and bounds over the past 40 years. Analytical instrumentation has become more and more robust, and the sensitivity has increased by several orders of magnitude. Analytical techniques are now available that were not dreamed of 50 years ago.

With new analytical technology, such as Tandem Mass Spectroscopy, accurate mass analysis by Quadrupole Time of Flight Mass Spectroscopy (QTOF) and Orbitrap has enabled us to detect and report down to ppt and ppq levels. Other techniques such as Compound Specific Isotope Analysis (CSIA) via Isotope Mass Spectroscopy can help in the area of source identification.

These new techniques now enable us to answer and solve some difficult problems that historically we could not.

Within Australia, many environmental professionals do not know of these analytical techniques. The NEPM with its prescriptive nature, not by design, has us, as environmental professionals frozen in time. Using old test methods that were developed in the 1970s and 1980s. A great time for music’s but analytical chemistry and environmental forensics have moved on.

This webinar is designed for environmental consultants and contractors, regulators, laboratory professionals, and industry practitioners seeking to expand their knowledge of advanced analytical chemistry and environmental forensic techniques beyond conventional methods.
