Liam will present lessons learned from not one, but two rapid response remediation projects conducted in the NT within the past few years. The two aircraft incident response projects led to ongoing improvements and innovations in the technical approach to rapid investigation, remediation planning and remediation delivery undertaken by Jacobs and Ventia on behalf of the Department of Defence.
Liam will present upon the methods employed in the investigation, remediation planning and remediation validation stages of the two projects, comparing and contrasting the methods employed and the unique challenges presented by each project.
Liam will explore the challenges of employing a staged approach to contamination management in remediation areas where timeliness of delivery is a critical risk. Tropical monsoon weather threatened further environmental impact if the sites were left un-managed, prompting an immediate rapid response to both incidents.
The presentation will demonstrate a unique, practical approach taken to achieve multiple lines of evidence supporting validation of remediation completion. The solutions employed by the project team enabled a compressed investigation and remediation schedule which mitigated compounding risks, achieving remediation completion in an expedited manner.
One of the projects referenced in this presentation was the 2024 ALGA Best Contaminated Site Remediation Project: Contamination Remediation Works of Melville Island, awarded to Jacobs and Ventia.
