SOLD OUT – Newcastle Branch Event – Legacy Risks of Coal Mining in Newcastle and the Hunter: Ground Gases, Combustibility & Leachate

SOLD OUT – Unlock the hidden story beneath your feet. This presentation explores the rich history of coal mining across the Newcastle and Hunter region, revealing how past mining activities continue to shape the ground today. Discover where hazardous ground gases may still be present as a legacy of these operations, and why they matter for modern developments.

We’ll also dive into the critical process of assessing sites located above former coal mine workings. Gain insights into the techniques used to determine whether carbon dioxide originates from historic mining activity or occurs naturally within soils and rock formations.

Whether you’re involved in planning, construction, or environmental assessment, this session will equip you with the knowledge to better understand and manage subsurface risks.
