Climate Change & Environmental Risk: Emerging Challenges for Health, Ecology, and Environment (Presented by ALGA’s Risk Assessment Specialist Interest Group)

Please note that registration is limited to 150 participants due to licensing constraints.

As climate change accelerates, so too do the environmental risks that challenge our communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. Join us for the first in a series of seminars exploring how shifting climate patterns are reshaping the landscape of environmental risk. For local governments, these challenges are especially pressing, as councils play a pivotal role in managing contaminated sites, protecting communities, and planning for climate resilience.

This seminar will focus on closed landfills, both coastal and those near rivers or subject to flooding, and explore how extreme weather is reshaping environmental risk profiles. From increased risk of contaminant mobility to ecological impacts and landfill stability, our expert speakers will unpack the science, share case studies from both Australia and New Zealand, and discuss practical strategies for assessing and managing risks in a changing world.

Whether you are an environmental consultant, regulator, or site manager, this session will provide valuable perspectives on integrating climate resilience into the management of future human health and ecological risks.
