Christchurch Branch Event – Groundwater Investigations: Best Practice for Confident Outcomes

Groundwater quality monitoring supports contaminated land assessments, contaminant-release responses and resource consent compliance. However, obtaining reliable and representative results requires more than collecting a water sample. Investigation design, monitoring well characteristics, hydrogeological conditions and the selected sampling method can all influence the information available for assessing contaminant migration and risk.

Join us for an engaging technical session exploring the practical aspects of groundwater investigations, from designing effective monitoring networks to interpreting groundwater quality data. Our speakers will share lessons learned and recent research, highlighting how investigation design and sampling methodology can affect data quality, contaminant assessment, and decision-making.

Presenters will explore:

  • Key considerations affecting groundwater investigation design
  • Contaminant migration pathways to groundwater and their relevance to risk assessment.
  • The advantages and limitations of groundwater sampling methods
  • The influence sampling methods may have on groundwater chemistry based on a recent investigation
  • Practical factors for selecting a sampling method suited to bore design

Whether you’re new to groundwater investigations or a seasoned contaminated land professional, you’ll leave with practical insights to help design better investigations, collect reliable data, and interpret results with greater confidence.
