Brisbane Branch Event – Water, Remediation and Emerging Solutions

Talk 1:  Building leaders in the sustainable management of contaminated land and groundwater Remediation Systems: Technologies + Overview. Bryan will be presenting on Remediation Systems: Hydraulic Containment, Water Treatment, Soil Vapour Extraction & Solar Solutions

Talk 2: This presentation will introduce a dual-functional hydrogel electrolyte developed for both PFAS remediation and rechargeable zinc-ion batteries. The hydrogel is designed to sorb PFAS from contaminated water while simultaneously functioning as a gel polymer electrolyte for electrochemical energy storage. The talk will highlight how water treatment and materials engineering can be integrated to create sustainable multifunctional systems, as well as how the captured PFAS may further contribute to interfacial stabilization during battery operation.

Talk 3: This presentation will focus on Nano and microplastics across environmental compartments: evidence, gaps and lessons learned

Bryan Threadingham

Bryan Threadingham

Operations Manager
InSite Remediation Services

Bryan Threadingham is currently serving as the operations manager at Insite Remediation Services. In this capacity, he leads a multidisciplinary team consisting of engineers, project managers, tradesmen, and technicians. His career journey began as an electrician and later transitioned to a role within the remediation management team at BP Australia. During his tenure at BP, he took on various responsibilities, starting as a technician for groundwater monitoring and gradually expanding his involvement in remediation efforts at contaminated sites, as well as post-environmental incident emergency response.

Following a significant period in the UK, Bryan assumed the position of business unit manager for the remediation team at Transpacific before ultimately joining Insite in 2012. Since joining Insite, he has played a role in overseeing numerous remediation projects across Australia, with a focus on the design, installation, and operation of remediation systems.

Yutong Khu

Yutong Zhu

PhD Candidate
The University of Queensland

Yutong Zhu is a third-year PhD candidate at Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) from The University of Queensland (UQ), under supervision of A/Prof Cheng Zhang and Prof Lianzhou Wang. She received her Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from UQ with dual majors in Chemical and Materials Engineering. Her research focuses on developing multifunctional materials for PFAS remediation from aqueous solution and their integration into aqueous zinc-ion batteries, aiming to establish sustainable strategies for PFAS utilization and electrochemical energy storage.

Elvis Okoffo

Dr Elvis Okoffo

ARC DECRA Research Fellow
The University of Queensland

Dr Elvis Okoffo is an ARC DECRA Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, Australia, and an emerging leader in micro- and nanoplastics research. His work focuses on understanding the occurrence, fate, and impacts of plastic particles across environmental and human systems. He develops innovative analytical methods to detect and quantify micro- and nanoplastics across water, air, sediments, biota, and their release from plastic products, helping to close critical knowledge gaps. Elvis works closely with industry and government to translate science into practical solutions for safer drinking water and more sustainable materials.
