Join us for an introduction to the newly established National Environmental Protection Agency (National EPA).
The session will be presented by the National EPA’s Mark Hall, a long-serving Commonwealth environmental regulator with more than 25 years’ experience across environmental impact assessment, natural resource management and major project approvals. Attendees will gain insights into the National EPA’s development, its interactions with existing regulatory frameworks, and what these changes may mean for environmental and contaminated land practitioners.

Mark Hall has worked for the Commonwealth environment department in its various iterations for more than 25 years, primarily as a regulator. After starting in international wildlife trade regulation, he has spent most of his career in environment impact assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), with a brief stint in First Nations Heritage protection. His current beat is Queensland, north of about Noosa, which consists mostly of coal and gas, and renewable energy assessments. Previously he has worked on assessments in all states and territories, across industries as diverse as residential development, ports and marine infrastructure, air transport, mining and agriculture.
With formal qualifications in forestry from the Australian National University, including an honours project on quantitative genetics, Mark has an appreciation for the importance of natural resource industries to the Australian economy, and of the value of science in maximising our results.
