Newcastle Branch Event – Historical Contaminated Land Sites from a Consultant and Auditor Perspective

SOLD OUT!

When outcropping coal measures were found in Newcastle by Lieutenant John Shortland in 1797, the industrial development of early Newcastle was set in stone. Coal fueled the furnaces of early copper smelters, gas works, and the famous BHP Steelworks. This industrial legacy, however, has left behind a complex challenge: contaminated land.

Join us for an insightful presentation unravelling Newcastle’s history—and its future. Delve into the science behind contaminated land investigations and the engineering used in remediating these legacy sites. Learn how we address pollutants like heavy metals, PAHs, and hydrocarbons, turning problematic sites into safe, usable spaces.

As an environmental professional, this session offers a chance to deepen your understanding of Newcastle’s industrial history and discover how innovative strategies can revitalize our landscapes and enhance public health. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with leading experts and explore the path forward for a cleaner, safer local community.

Your ticket includes a complimentary drink and a selection of appetizers. Please note that this is not a formal dinner event.

BYO! To minimise our use of plastic, we encourage delegates to bring their own reusable water bottles and coffee cups.

Due to the venue’s security measures, make sure you arrive on time.

*Due to unforseen circumstances, Bob Gauthier will not be able to present at this event.  Ray Marten will present in his place.  ALGA is grateful to both.
