Richard Griffiths – ENGEO: Topic – Case study presenting the recent Smith St stabilisation project. As a residential re-development of a site containing historical mine workings including a 300m deep exploration shaft, this project was faced with complex combination of geotechnical and contamination challenges that were resolved through collaborative, evidence-based design. Faced with large surplus fill volumes containing legacy contamination, the project team developed an integrated solution that achieved significant landfill diversion and transformed an unstable liability into community reserve land. The project was recognised with the WasteMINZ/ALGA Excellence in Sustainable Waste Disposal award in 2026.

Blayn Fenwick- HEB Construction Ltd: Topic – Blayn will be presenting from a contractor’s perspective on managing contaminated land across small to medium active work sites, including:

  • Managing environmental compliance within live, operational construction environments
  • Navigating resource and planning constraints
  • Technical intent vs contractor delivery
  • Addressing communication challenges and common misunderstandings within the project teams

Lucie Kibblewhite – Bay of Plenty Regional Council Toi Moana: Topic – Soil reuse within the Bay of Plenty. Exploring soil reuse from Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s perspective, including regulatory considerations, environmental risk management, and practical approaches to the sustainable movement and reuse of soil.
