Has soil focused contaminated land regulation resulted in lesser attention to effects on groundwater in some instances?
Join the Auckland ALGA branch to as we explore this question and provide some helpful context on current challenges to groundwater quality.
Presentations will traverse the regulatory context, provide information on some data collection methods and cover contaminants from nutrients through to those more recently emerged.

Laura joined Auckland Council in 2014 and is a Senior Freshwater Scientist in the Environmental Evaluation and Monitoring Unit (EEMU). One of Laura's key roles is the science lead for Council's long term Groundwater Quality monitoring program. Laura completed a PhD at AgResearch in soil biogeochemistry – studying nitrate transport and loss dynamics from soils in dairy farming systems.
Laura will be presenting on nitrate contamination in Pukekohe volcanic aquifers, sharing the results from Auckland Council’s long term groundwater monitoring program and also reporting on recent findings, obtained in collaboration with GNS Science, on nitrate transport and transformation mechanisms.
