| In 2005 Malcolm Gladwell noted an interesting fact that despite only 14.5% the general population of US males being over 6 feet tall, amongst CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, the number who were over 6 foot sat at 58%. Closer to home in 2015, Elizabeth Broderick mentioned in her farewell speech that there were more men named Peter (14) running ASX200 companies than there were women (11). If asked the question “do you think that this specific random trait makes someone inherently better at achieving a status”, most people would not agree. However, there are many more examples of curious biases that germinate when people are not presented with considered alternatives nor take time contemplate the lived experience of others. ALGAs Diversity and Inclusion series is an opportunity to hear from people with different experiences to help work towards mitigating the unconscious biases we all carry.
ALGA SA Branch in their inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Series are pleased to present three trail blazers providing insights into their diverse careers, who their role models and mentors were and how they are giving back to support others to make the most of opportunities that arise. Come and join our panel in a conversation on how Diversity and Inclusion enhances opportunities for all. This event is for those that want to understand what they can do to support and recognise those around them and help build a culture of belonging with someone who may have different experiences.
