Workshops: Emerging Contaminants and Sustainable Remediation
Register for one or both workshops.
Workshop: Sustainable Remediation
- This is one of Australia’s highest profile remediated sites and was an early if not the first Australian example of risk-based remediation. SuRF-ANZ is taking this opportunity to host a workshop looking at the remedial options considered for the site in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with a focus of how the options might be appraised today using the framework set out in International Standard ISO:18504 Soil Quality – Sustainable Remediation. The workshop will be delivered by a number of leading Australian and international proponents of sustainable remediation.
Workshop: Emerging Contaminants
- How do we identify and respond to emerging contaminants that pose the greatest risk to human health and the environment. This workshop will ask the question what is the ‘next PFAS’… and explain why answering that question might not be possible. A focus of our industry for decades has been understanding what contaminants may be in our environment and answering whether they present a risk to humans or the environment. However, as analysis of environmental media has evolved, we are identifying many more compounds at much lower concentrations than ever before. Understanding which compounds present an unacceptable risk to humans and the environment, and what management practices are needed, is particularly challenging and the topic of much debate. With expert speakers we'll discuss how our industry is identifying, prioritising and managing emerging contaminants.
