An emerging contaminant was identified in drinking water wells near a manufacturing facility in the Midwest of the United States. As a result, drinking water samples were collected from over 500 private wells and 30 public water systems within certain distances of the facility. Additionally, treatment systems were offered to private wells within a specific distance of the facility.

Erin Dietrich will demonstrate how the project leveraged three Microsoft O365 tools – Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI - to compile data from multiple databases so the real-time status of each property could be easily accessed by the project team through a single platform.

Microsoft Power Apps was used to capture property and sampling details, such as communications, sampling photos and treatment installations. Power Automate was the engine used to send email alerts to key staff when action was needed for a particular property. Power BI compiled spatial information from ESRI ArcGIS Pro, analytical data from EarthSoft EQuIS, and sampling communication information summarised in SharePoint to visualize data in interactive maps, charts, and tables.

This approach allowed the project team to provide personalised communication to well contacts throughout the entire project cycle, report data from a consistent source and enabled users to see data as soon as it was available. The Power BI dashboard is currently being used daily by over forty project team members across five organizations to track and report on project progress.
