Indigenous Night – A panel discussion on Native Title, Cultural Heritage Site and Community Engagement

ALGA is pleased to host this exciting panel discussion with leaders in the fields of Indigenous community engagement, cultural heritage and Native Title. Our speakers will discuss their experiences and highlight the importance of considering communities, culture and Country in all projects.

There will be the opportunity for Q&A in a panel format at the end of the session.




Joshua Creamer,
Barrister at Law


Joshua is Waanyi and Kalkadoon and is a barrister at the Griffith Chambers in Brisbane. Joshua has appeared in two landmark class actions, Wotton v State of QLD (2016 – the Palm Island Case) and Pearson v State of QLD (2020 – Stolen Wages QLD).  He is specialised in class actions and native title and is ranked in Chambers and Partners Asia – Pacific and Doyle’s Guide. Joshua’s major areas of practice include mining, energy and resources and native title.



Cassie Lang,
Senior Solicitor,
Marrawah Law



Cassie is connected to South Western QLD and Northern NSW and grew up in Brisbane. Cassie has eleven years of experience in Indigenous law, particularly native title and Indigenous cultural heritage.  Cassie has assisted Traditional Owner groups in the Surat, Bowen, Galilee and Torres Strait region to negotiate access agreements under the Native Title Act 1993. Cassie has practical experience in Indigenous engagement, resolution of intra-Indigenous dispute and community consultations and her role regularly involve extensive travels to remote Indigenous communities.



Sharon Sebastian,
Australian Service Line Leader Engagement,
Communication & Communities, GHD



Sharon has more than 15 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement and program communication. She has worked on largescale Defence, infrastructure, transport and environment programs, and is currently the Australian Service Line Leader for Engagement, Communication and Communities at GHD. Sharon has designed engagement frameworks for projects, which include the delivery of workshops and information sessions for different levels of industry, community and government. Her approach enables program teams achieve key objectives and define key requirements. Sharon brings an authentic engagement style to projects she works on, building relationships and trust to enable on-point communication.
