ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Jarrod Hall – Environmental Consultant | 4Sight Consulting
Jarrod joined 4Sight as a graduate in 2020 and has been with the company just shy of 2 years. His education is a BSc (tech) in Earth Sciences from the University of Waikato, and he works across a range of practice sectors include contaminated land management, environmental risk assessment and due diligence. Jarrod is going to talk about a landfill investigation project undertaken to support potential remedial options at the former Te Araroa Landfill. This includes the challenges of working in a relatively remote area, the friendly locals, and that work scope which included soil, groundwater and landfill gas aspects, plus it was his first experience installing groundwater monitoring wells.

Rachel Terlinden – Specialist Contamination, Air and Noise | Auckland Council
Rachel works at Auckland Council as a Specialist in the Contamination, Air and Noise team. She started in 2019 as the team’s technical officer and moved into a specialist role mid 2021 with a current focus on contaminated land and air quality. She has a Master of Science from the University of Otago, which she completed in mid 2019. A fun fact about Rachel is that her topic of study for her Master’s was about environmental impacts on bumble bees, prior to moving into the contaminated land and air quality space after graduating.

Caitlin Holm – Scientist – Geothermal Air Land Ecology and Contamination | Waikato Regional Council
Caitlin has worked at the Waikato Regional Council for three years, and currently works as a scientist specialising in contaminated land. Caitlin is working towards a Masters in Earth Science at Waikato University where she previously completed her Bachelors of Earth Science. Caitlin is going to discuss what occurs behind the scenes at WRC in relation to how information regarding contaminated land is recorded and registered, what happens once reports and submitted, and the process involved.

Vince Pettinger – Environmental Scientist | Engeo
Vince joined ENGEO as a graduate environmental scientist in 2018. His education is double major BSc in Geology and Physical Geography and a MSc in Geochemistry (Geology) from the University of Otago. Vince will be discussing a recent due diligence sub-slab gas and indoor air quality investigation in a former manufacturing facility turned food distribution centre.
