Emerging Professionals SIG

Written by Georgie Shaw (Aliance) and Alexandra Lay (Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage)

What has been the highlight of your Branch/SIG this year?

Over the last year, we have proudly cemented our role as a community-builder in the contaminated land and groundwater industry. Our key achievements focused on supporting professionals at every career stage. We celebrated industry pioneers at an in-person event in Sydney, honouring their immense contributions. To foster new talent, we created a successful webinar series to help emerging professionals build their careers and actively promoted the industry’s rising stars across Australia and New Zealand. These initiatives underscore our commitment to ensuring a connected and thriving sector for the future.

What are you most excited about in the new financial year (1 July  2025 – 30 June 2026)

Building on the momentum of the past year, we have an exciting agenda for the next financial year focused on fostering collaboration and international connections. We are thrilled to be working closely with ALGA to deliver a unique and memorable experience at this year’s EcoForum in Brisbane (watch this space!). Furthermore, we are committed to strengthening our trans-Tasman ties. Our engagement with the professional community in New Zealand continues with the development of a new webinar specifically designed to showcase the talent and expertise based there. These initiatives underscore our dedication to building a connected industry across the region.
