Championing Soil: ALGA at the Parliamentary Friends of Soil Breakfast

On 25 November 2025, ALGA CEO Matthew Potter and Board Director Vicki Pearce attended the Parliamentary Friends of Soil Breakfast at Parliament House, Canberra. The event, hosted by Soil Science Australia, marked World Soil Day under the theme Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.

The breakfast brought together parliamentarians, industry leaders, researchers, and soil science stakeholders to discuss the critical role soil plays in environmental management, sustainable land use, and urban planning.

A highlight of the event was a presentation by ALGA member Professor Suzie Reichman, who shared insights from her research with a PhD student at Melbourne University on soil health in urban environments. Each speaker reinforced the message that soil is a finite resource that must be protected, a theme echoed in our earlier e-cronicle edition, “Soil as a Resource.”

ALGA extends its thanks to Soil Science Australia for the invitation to participate in this prestigious event.
