Barangaroo: From Derelict to Developed
LendLease Sydney, Level 14, Tower 3, International Towers, Barangaroo NSW 2000
Lendlease insights into the successful redevelopment of one of the world’s most ambitious urban renewal projects
The development of contaminated land is a complex process involving many stakeholders. A key challenge is understanding that remediation is not undertaken in isolation, but instead requires integration with other equally important project delivery aspects. Barangaroo provides the perfect case study for identifying the types of challenges faced, and solutions required, to successfully deliver an urban renewal project on formerly contaminated land. Lendlease’s recently formed specialist Remediation & Environmental Services Business Unit will host a breakfast function in Barangaroo Tower 3, to provide the industry with a developer’s perspective on urban renewal projects.
- Angus Northey, Lendlease Environmental Services Manager. Angus will talk about the historical activities undertaken at Barangaroo that resulted in contamination of the precinct. He will then summarise the development progression from concept to construction.
- Mark Burns, Lendlease Remediation Manager. Mark will provide an overview of key challenges arising from precinct remediation and how they were successfully managed by Lendlease and the BDA. Rather than focus on the remediation ‘science’, Mark will demonstrate the importance integrating remediation works with other key development drivers.
- Annie Tennant, Lendlease General Manager for Sustainability and Culture – Barangaroo South. Annie will discuss some of the sustainable initiatives incorporated into the design, construction and operation of the Barangaroo International Towers
